Young Life Service Project May - 27th - April 1, 2005

On May 27th YoungLife Europe (www.younglife.org), in partnership with New Horizons coordinated 5 large service projects in Lupeni, Romania for over 175 high schools students and leaders from international schools and YoungLife clubs throughout Europe.

Their mission was to serve the community of Lupeni with projects that would give children more opportunities for outdoor activities, prevent future flooding in residential areas, and to help people of Lupeni find value within their communities- each project was designed with long term sustainability goals. For 5 days, participants and local students constructed a skateboard park, installed a fence for soccer field, taught English lessons in 4 different schools, cleaned-up garbage and renovated a local hospital garden area. The biggest, dirtiest and most well- liked project by all participants was the “ditch” clean up, to avoid future flooding to local neighbors homes and gardens. The kids got “down and dirty” by clearing debris from 200 meter long ditch.

To thank public officials, local organizations and communities members for their support and donations, YoungLife hosted a community dedication ceremony of all the projects near the newly installed skateboard park. It was definitely a week to remember for all.
