Outhouse Construction in Retezat National Park - August 23-27, 2003
 |
The outhouse was built in Campusel, a main entrance to Retezat National Park, close to established campsites. Unfortunately, in the area there were no toilet facilities and the forest nearby became an ecological disaster. None of the responsible institutions (Administration of Retezat National Park, Lupeni Mountain Rescue and Lupeni Forest Rangers) did not do anything to prevent the visual and social impacts this pristine area was suffering from. IMPACT members received an approval from the Park direction to undertake the project and to distribute ecological fliers and announcements on public television. Lupeni City Hall and a local lumber mill donated all the necessary wood along with a carpenter to help with the construction of the project. Local shops supplied food for 20 kids and 4 leaders for 4 days.
After completion, signs were hung around Campusel to direct campers to the outhouse. The trip also combined fun, rock climbing and a caving expedition and ecology lessons.
