Tudor Marciu - send an e-mail

Tudor has always felt his place was to be working with people, in spite of his technical background. Following four years of volunteer work in projects based on social involvement, projects that entailed numerous collaborations with New Horizons Foundation and IMPACT volunteers, came the decision to begin actively contributing to building the social capital, as network coordinator for IMPACT. Using his experience in dealing with NGO-specific issues, as well as his technical knowledge, he has resolved to adapt the IMPACT network to the rapid growth that is going on, while preserving its principles and essence.

Mihaela is the New Horizons Foundation`s senior project manager for the Cluj Napoca region. She graduated the Political Sciences Faculty, Babes Bolyai University, and finished a master program in Phylosophy, at the same university. Part of her study program was developed within the Instutute for Political Sciences of the Tuebingen University – Germany. Mihaelas’ professional areas of interest are emerging from the meeting point of the theories and practices of active citizenship with the social capital theory. Her main responsibility within New Horizons Foundation is to coordinate the activities of the Foundation`s office based in Cluj Napoca, being actively involved in develoment and sustainability projects for the IMPACT community service youth clubs, in the Transilvania region.

Bianca graduated in 2008 from the Faculty Of Public Administration at the University “Politehnica “Timisoara. She spent her years in Timisoara, being a volunteer at BEST , non –profit and non-political organisation for students, by students , which interests are splited in three main areas : complementary education, educational program, career support . Now she studies at the Univesity Petrosani, a master on “Political science” , for New Horizons Foundation she is working both as an asistent manager for the program One Level Up and Senior Lider at the Club BEST Hurricane.




Ioana Sirbu - send an e-mail

Ioana is a student at the Political Science Faculty- Bucharest University. Her experience regarding project management is based on the coordination of projects in several areas, such as the Empowerment of Civil Society, implementation of United Nations Agreements, Culture. In 2008 Ioana followed courses offered by the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, within the Warsaw Univerity. She also developed her skills by coordinating an international research project from the United Nations Office in Geneva. As of February 2009, she is the national IMPACT network coordinator, currently focusing on the development of the organizational communication strategy, as well as on the coordination of several national projects.

Marilena graduated from the University of Bucharest with a Master degree in Organical Chemistry. She started her financial career in IT&C having over 4 years experience in organizational financial management. She specialized in finance by following the executive financial management program from ASEBUSS and is responsible for the financial activities of the New Horizons Foundation in Bucharest.

Sorana Bobaru is Deputy Program Coordinator in the IMPACT Project in Cluj Napoca. She graduated Psychology and Educational Sciences School, Psychology section, and her main interest areas are developing human potential and multiculturalism. She has experience in the nongovernmental environment, being involved for almost 10 years in activities like leading programs that aimed youth involvement in the community and leading trainings about social entrepreneurship and cultural diversity in Poland. Her passion remains the mountain and everything related to it.








Cristian Milos - send an e-mail

Cristian Milos graduated from the Faculty of Letters, Philosophy and History in Timisoara, department of Orthodox Theology. He worked for 13 years as a teacher, now teaching in The Highschool for Chemistry and Ecology Azur in Timisoara. For New Horizons Foundation he is working both as IMPACT Azur Club Senior Leader and also as Regional Coordinator for Timis, Mehedinti, Dolj, Ialomita, Constanta counties and for Bucharest. Cristian works from Timisoara.






Mariana Zamfir-Străut - send an e-mail

Mariana works in New Horizons Foundation since January 2008 as a social-educative animator. Mariana graduated in 2006 the Faculty of Sciences from University of Petrosani, department of psychosociology, in 2005 the pedagogic module in the same University, and in 2008 a TOT training in gifted education pedagogy with AHPCC and IRSCA Gifted Education specialists. Mariana is volunteering since 1996 in various NGO's for youth and unprivileged people, following many specialization courses and gaining experience in project management and youth and children with special educational needs, including gifted children, non-formal education. She coordinated a national research about using a multmedia primer in classrooms and is the coordinator of a group of authors related of this research. In New Horizons Foundation Mariana coordinates the IMPACT 1 Lupeni and New Generation IMPACT Petrosani clubs, she updates the IMPACT project descriptions on NHF website, identifies grant opportunities; takes part from the writting projects and volunteers recruitment teams.





Ilie Popescu - send an e-mail

Ilie Popescu is a program administrator for the New Horizons Foundation. He has served in New Horizons' Viata Program since 2000, both as a Viata leader and as the Viata Program's Assistant Director. He participated and received certification in the Outdoor Education course organized by the Wilderness Education Association, one of the top international courses in this area. He is also certified in industrial alpinism. He oversees the ropes course, leads in IMPACT program, and manages the physical properties of the Foundation. In present Ilie Popescu is a student at the Babes-Bolyai Universty in Social Comunication and Public Relations.

Tiberiu Culidiuc graduated in 1997 the Faculty of Philosophy, specialization Pedagogy at the University "Al. I. Cuza" Iasi and in 2002, at the same university he graduated with a MA in Education Policies. In 2005 he graduated with a MA in Project Management at the Academy of Economic Studies, in Bucharest. He has experience in working with young people; he worked as a teacher, as an education counselor, in summer camps and served as an advisor for the State camp system.
The areas that he is interested in are: character development and practical life.
From oct. 2006 - dec. 2007 he was student in Dickendorf, Germany where he studied life skills and a spirituality of daily life.
Since January 2008 he is working in New Horizons Foundation where he is coordinating two IMPACT clubs, one in Lupeni and another one in Uricani and beginning with Jully he is regional coordinator for IMPACT programme in Jiu Valley.

George Luca is a student of the Political Science Faculty of Bucharest University. He has worked with New Horizons Foundation since January 2008. He is coordinating 3 national and international projects financed through the Youth in Action program. He has experience in project management and working with young people and he had participated to training sessions on project proposals writing, volunteer management and advocacy in NGOs.

Adrian Albet has graduated the Theological Faculty, Pastoral department in June 1997 and The Philosophy Faculty, Sociology department in June 2002. He is a priest and Religion teacher. He works with New Horizons Foundation since 2005 as regional coordinator in the IMPACT program in Moldova. He is coordinating the activities of 6 IMPACT clubs for more than 120 members and leaders.

Diana Certan is the Program Director of New Horizons Foundation. She graduated in 2002 with a degree in Political Science from Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca and in 2004 she also graduated with an MA in Community Development at the Faculty of Public Administration, Babes-Bolyai University in partnership with Michigan State University. The research areas that she is interested in are: transitional societies, civil society and social capital theory. Diana's main responsibility consists in coordinating the National IMPACT project implemented in partnership with International Orthodox Christian Charities, the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Education and Research, financed by USAID as part of the project entitled: "Strengthening Community Initiatives Regarding HIV/AIDS and Family Violence in Romania". Other responsibilities consist of coordinating the research for VIATA and IMPACT programs and helping with the management of New Horizons Foundation.




Vali Popescu - send an e-mail

Vali graduated from the University of Bucharest with a degree in Library Science. Vali has a four year experience as a Viata senior leader and is one of the most appreciated leaders in our programs. Vali served as an IMPACT leader for two years and developed a large majority of curriculum used in our National service learning programs. He is also the coordinator of the two IMPACT clubs from Uricani in the Jiu Valley. He is a gifted corporate trainer and facilitator, leads insightful debriefing sessions and is truly a natural leader with 5 year experience in our Viata Corporate Adventures program.

Maria Neagu is a student at her first year master degree at USAMV Bucharest. She is studying European Projects Management. Maria Neagu was a Viata Program leader and a IMPACT Club coordinator, and now she is a IMPACT regional coordinator for Bucharest, Ialomita, and Constanta. Also, she introduced for the IMPACT Club a series of games, and theater classes. She has a vast experience of volunteering between the National Organization of Romanian Boy scouts; she coordinated the "Learn to tolerate" project - Chance for Life, Bucharest. She participated at numerous trainings in Romania and abroad, representative for the ONG sector.

 

Levente Laszlo - send an e-mail

Levente Laszlo graduated from the University of Petrosani with a degree in Informatics/Computers and Autonomics. Now he is taking a master degree on Inteligent Systems at the Babes-Bolyai University. He specialized in hardware and network administration. At New Horizons Foundation, he is the computer network administrator, web administrator, IMPACT club leader, and computer instructor for IMPACT clubs and staff. Outside of his degree, he has participated in project writing and public relations courses.

Bates receive Jack Goodman Alumni Award for Community Service

Rebuilding Social Capital in Post-Communist Romania: Gordon Stillpoint 2010

Dana Bates graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. He finished his Masters of Divinity from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 2005 and is currently a PhD student at Oxford (through the University of Wales) on a philosophy/theology of development using Eastern Orthodox theology. Dana Bates envisioned and supervised the development of Romania's first ropes course in 1999. In 2000, he founded New Horizons Foundation to launch youth development programs in the Jiu Valley and was the principle architect of the IMPACT model that is now approaching 170 clubs in Romania and Latin America. Dana is also adjunct faculty at Northwestern College and runs the Romania Semester Abroad. As the Executive Director of The New Horizons Foundation, his responsibilities include vision casting, fundraising, research, curriculum development, and project management.

Brandi Bates graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. Brandi co-founded New Horizons Foundation with her husband, Dana Bates. Brandi Bates serves as the Administrative Director for New Horizons Foundation, and she is the Director of the summer Viata Program. She also coordinates Human Resources and fundraising for the Foundation.
